A day in the life of Reception
class
The school day starts at 9am. Children go into the classroom and
put their belongings in the appropriate places before they ‘self-
register’ by finding their own name cards. The teacher will also do
a more formal register.
There are four sessions of teaching and learning during the day.
Each of these begins with whole-class
learning. The children then participate
in a range of activities in both indoor
and outdoor learning environments.
The teacher and nursery nurse will
lead or support the children’s learning
throughout the day and the children will be expected to spend some
of their time working independently.
The children have their lunchtime from 11.50-1.10pm. They wash
their hands before they go to the hall to have a school dinner or
eat their packed lunch in the packed lunch room. They go in the
hall first so that they can eat in a quiet environment before the
older pupils come in. When they have finished they are allowed to
play for the remaining time.
The children
finish their day
at 3.20pm.
