School dinners.

Since September 2014 all infant children from Reception to Year 2 have been entitled to a free
school meal. All schools must follow the school food standards which are intended to help
children develop healthy eating habits and ensure that they get the energy and nutrition they
need across the whole school day. Only 1% of packed lunches meet the nutritional standards
that currently apply to school food.

However,

Schools still needs parents to fill out a free school meal form annually if they are entitled to
any of the below benefits, as this gives the school ‘pupil premium’ funding, which can help
towards more learning resources.

    - Income support
    - Jobseekers allowance
    - An income-related employment or support allowance
    - Child tax credit (provided you are not receiving working tax credit) and the household

        income is less than £16,190.
    - Financial support, in accordance with the immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
